"Hey, Saw your profile and thought I'd see if you liked what you saw 😏"
Strangly as soon as the message went, I could see the other person typing. In my mind I thought this is great, I was looking for a quick meet and that seems the way its going to go.
The reply was simple. easy to follow and made my mind up:
"I only meet certain people who are up for anything and once the night is arranged you aren't allowed to say no"
Perfect i thought, first day in the city. what's the worst that can happen? If she gets a little too much, I'll be able to talk her round. Everyone is a little brash on a dating site.
"I'm happy to meet, however i can be persuasive and it might be you not saying no 😏"
This seemed to have the desired reaction and the address was given maybe a 20 min walk from my student accommodation. I was given 30 mins to get there and was asked to send my mobile number with my location settings on so they could track how close I was to the flat.
As i wanted to make the right first impression i jumped in a shower. I'm not even sure i got wet. I had shower gel everywhere and in a couple of mins was dried and sticking on a nice t-shirt and jeans. As it was Scotland in mid-September a jacket was also required for the 20 minute walk to the flat.
On the way I stopped in at a small shop, bought a bottle of wine and a packet of chewing gum (just to make sure I was extra fresh for the first time seeing each other.
On the walk i felt my phone going and it was a WhatsApp message just saying "10 Minutes left"
I replied to say I wasn't far away and where should I meet her as she had only given me a street name. The next messaged pinged back within seconds giving me a flat number and saying to me I need to call once outside.
It felt as if i was going for a job interview. I thought the whole point in these Apps were to meet in a pub/flat/place and decide yes/no and then get the job done. However, this felt like I was being challenged at every step.
