I had several friends in the complex, both girl and boys, but my best friend was Kevin. Kevin was the same age as me and lived with his parents in one of the houses next to out complex, we went to the same school, and hung out a lot after school so we became best friends. I was always skinny and my body was underdeveloped for my age and shorter than the other kids my own age but healthy. My mother even took me to the doctor once to get checked out and he said I was fine and would grow and not to worry. Kevin was a little taller than me and more heavy set than I was.

It was around this time I was getting labeled a “sissy” by my peer group or called a wimp or even sometime a “fag”, but I was never really bullied or anything growing up. Just normal boy stuff I assumed and it did not bother me. Heck I did boy things and did not play with dolls or anything like that. When Kevin and I hung out we would go out and play “army”, “cowboys”, pick up sticks and pretend we were sword fighting, and other normal boy things. We even had a group of kids we hung out with in our complex.

Our complex was like a little social hub for kids our age or older for both girls and boys. Some would move away but it seemed like there was always another one to replace the one that left. On the other side of our complex was a large vacant lot next to the small playground area of our apartments and on that lot we would play baseball in the summer and football in the fall and winter and kids would hang out there. Well let me correct that, the other kids would play baseball and football. I was never good at sports so never got picked for a team unless it was a filler to balance the teams out. Or when we played baseball I was always assigned to be the designated catcher because we did not have enough kids to make a full team. Most of the time I just watched and talked to the girls who were not into sports and just came to hang out with the other kids. I didn’t mind; I had fun. Then one day after school Kevin and I started making out.
